2011 Stanley Awards winners announced
The Australian Cartoonists Association announced the winners of the 2011 Stanley Awards at an event at the Mercure Sydney Hotel on Saturday 12 November.
This year, the Gold Stanley for Cartoonist of the Year went to Anton Emdin, a freelance illustrator whose works have appeared in a number of leading magazines.
Copyright Agency’s Director of Member Services, Eloise Nolan presented the award for Single Gag Cartoonist which this year went to Andrew Weldon whose cartoons have appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The New Yorker, The Australian and The Big Issue.
Other awards were presented for best Caricaturist, Comic Strip Artist, Illustrator and Editorial/Political Cartoonist. The award for best Comic Book Artist went to Copyright Agency member David Follett.
Supported by Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, the Stanley Awards recognise the best in Australian cartoonists and cartooning. The Awards are named in honour of Stan Cross (1888-1977), a comic strip and political cartoonist best known for his work “For gorsake, stop laughing: this is serious!”, published in 1933.
