A little bit of culture
With almost $10 million in grants allocated to date, CAL has officially launched a short film to showcase some of the remarkable projects that have benefited from grants allocated through the
CAL Cultural Fund.
The film was shot earlier this year in several locations around Australia and includes interviews and footage of some of the interesting initiatives the Cultural Fund has recently supported. It’s hoped the film will inspire and encourage others in the cultural community to apply for grants from CAL in new and exciting Australian cultural projects.
CAL allocates 1.5% of revenue for the Cultural Fund to reinvest in Australia’s vibrant arts and cultural community. Since its inception, the grants have been allocated to a wide cross-section of industries and across a broad range of areas including:
- providing funding to convert some of Australia’s favourite books to Braille;
- support of the education sector via the Scattered Bones writing and mentoring project for middle school students;
- funding the new Chair in Australian Poetry at the University of Technology, Sydney;
- supporting the Victorian Indigenous Art Awards 2011;
- assisting Australian creators to engage with international markets to enhance the profile of Australian artists to a broader community;
- funding overseas journalism internships for students at Charles Sturt University; and
- supporting internships and mentorship programs in the publishing area and including some of Australia’s well-loved and well-known authors in writer-in-residence programs at universities such as RMIT.
In addition to the main Cultural Fund grants, there is also up to $150,000 allocated each year to the Creative Industries Career Fund to support individual Australian creators and those involved in the creative industries who wish to develop their skills and take their careers to the next level. Applicants can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to undertake training, travel or other activities that will enhance their careers.
CAL’s Cultural Fund film is now available online on our
website and on
YouTube. To find out more about the CAL Cultural Fund, to see some of the prior grant recipients and to apply for grants, please refer to the Cultural Fund pages of the
