Animation Station – an event for kids of all ages!

The State Library of Queensland on South Bank in Brisbane is hosting Animation Station; free daily workshops and performances for children on cartooning, paper constructions and puppetry until 23 January 2011.

Between 10am and 3pm every day, children can meet a real life cartoon character at an interactive animation performance, build their own puppet and then have it perform on a puppet stage. It is a great opportunity for children have fun whilst learning about illustration and animation. More information about the event is available on the State Library of Queensland’s website.

While the focus of this event is on children, kids of all ages (including any Queensland-based visual artist CAL members) might like to consider a visit! A number of CAL’s members are visual artists, which includes animators, cartoonists and illustrators.

CAL also supports a number of prizes, events and activities for visual artists in Australia every year through the CAL Cultural Fund. For example, in 2010 the Cultural Fund pledged support for such activities as the Artist Run Initiatives conference run by National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA), the This is not art festival in Newcastle, the Sydney Mardi Gras Gallery Prize 2011, and the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, to name a few.

If you are a visual artist and have a query about becoming a CAL member, please do not hesitate to contact us on info@copyright.com.au or by phoning 1800 066 844 (toll free within Australia).  If you would like to know more about applying for funding from the CAL Cultural Fund (applications close soon!), please contact the CAL Cultural Fund Manager, Zoë Rodriguez at the same number.
