CAL's member seminar for 2011 will be held in Sydney on Wednesday 25 May, at Australian Technology Park (ATP), Eveleigh. ‘The future of creativity’-inspired event is focused on how developing technology will impact authors, artists and publishers and the copying and sharing of works in the future.
There will be a range of CAL and guest speakers, including:
- Lucy Byrne from the Australia Council for the Arts
- Cassandra Scott from National Broadband Network Co
- Kate Eltham from Queensland Writers’ Centre & Future of the Book
- Emmett Stinson from Small Press Underground Networking Community (SPUNC)
- David Gaunt from Gleebooks
- Pippa Masson from the literary agency, Curtis Brown
The first session commences at 2pm and will include an update on CAL’s recent activities; CAL’s new online member facility; Australia Council funding grants for publishers, authors and visual artists; information on the Resale Royalty Scheme; and CAL’s Cultural Fund projects for 2011.
Session two starts at 4pm with an overview on national and international technological trends and developments, and the National Broadband Network. Session two concludes with a panel of guest speakers sharing their thoughts on the trends they’re seeing in the industry, the challenges and the opportunities, and what they expect for the future.
CAL’s Rightsholder Relations Manager, Eloise Nolan, is excited about the upcoming seminar, saying that ‘we plan the seminars around giving members as much information that is both useful and relevant to them as we can, including the latest in CAL and broader industry developments as well as trends that may also have an impact upon members . We’ve assembled some excellent guest speakers this year who we hope can share in some valuable discussion on where the future of publishing and copyright could be headed and what that may mean for CAL members.’
‘The future of creativity’ is a free event.
