Digital publishing beginners guide to be launched at Copyright Agency seminar

A much-needed resource to help Australia’s small-medium publishers get started in e-publishing will be launched at Copyright Agency’s Annual Seminar on 23 February.

The launch of Digital Publishing Australia during the day’s second session (see timetable below) will be the highlight of the day.

Digital Publishing Australia is a new industry resource for those wanting to get started in the digital space. Its launch will also feature a discussion on digital publishing with contributions from DoctorZed Publishing, Cambridge University Press, Hardie Grant Publishing and Text Publishing.

Digital Publishing Australia has been developed in response to the finding in Copyright Agency’s 2011 digital publishing trends survey that there is a strong and urgent need for how-to information about digital publishing in this market. ‘Many small and medium-sized publishers are confused about where to start when it comes to digital publishing,’ said Copyright Agency’s International Affairs & Digital Strategy Manager, Michael Lijic. ‘This guide is an entry point for anyone who is just commencing their digital journey and will help point them in the right direction. It was written by Australian experts in the field and is specifically focussed on issues unique to Australian creators.’

Something else to look forward to is a session on the opportunities the education sector can expect from ongoing advances in digital publishing and technology. The seminar’s opening session will include an overview of what the NBN means for education, and a presentation from Bond University’s Dr Jeffrey Brand on the application of gaming technology to education. Dr Brand, formerly of Michigan State University, is a leading international speaker who has written and presented extensively on the subject and is expected to shed new light on the benefits of merging educational publishing with the technology and philosophy of interactive gaming.

Digital Publishing Today is a free event but prior registration is required. Interested parties can contact Copyright Agency directly, advising which sessions they wish to attend, by emailing events@copyright.com.au or by calling 1800 066 844 by 5pm Friday 17 February 2012.
