Statutory licence schemes
These are the compulsory schemes created by the Copyright Act 1968 under which a specified class of user may reproduce and communicate copyright works for specified purposes, subject to certain conditions, including payment. Authorised users include educational institutions and federal, state and territory governments.
New media licence schemes
The Copyright Agency corporate licence allows Australian businesses to use works owned by Copyright Agency members in return for a licence fee. The licence, known as
CopyrightAccess, is designed to support the proper use and distribution of copyright-protected works in business and covers the digital use of works.
The rights granted under this licence include printing and photocopying, internal electronic use (email, intranet archiving etc), supply to regulatory authorities, inclusion in Powerpoints and other presentations and particular permissions for pharmaceutical and health care licensees.
Coyright Agency is working with an array of partners in the new digital technology and publishing sectors to develop and expand online use of our members’ works.
The partnerships have seen the development of a number of New Media Licence Schemes that promote compliant use of digital material and provide customers with easy access to a wealth of digital content.

New Online Content Models
Copyright Agency, in partnership with our members, is also developing a number of online content services to pilot new ways of distributing works in the expanding market. For further information about these schemes, please contact us.
Why participate in these projects?
Through these licence schemes Copyright Agency helps members find new markets and additional revenue streams.
Copyright Agency provides publishers with an opportunity for distribution of their content in the expanding online marketplace.
New technologies make it easier to digitally copy and exchange material without payment to copyright owners. Copyright Agency is a trusted partner in working to secure downstream benefits for the use of published works that would otherwise show no revenue returns.
Copyright Agency negotiates with the major content aggregators on behalf of all participating members to achieve the best possible financial return. Acting for many individual publishers adds considerably to Copyright Ageny's negotiating position. Hundreds of journals and thousands of articles are included.
Copyright Agency monitors use and manages the collection and payment to all the individual participating members consistent with Copyright Agency's trusted distribution policies.
Commercial reproduction licence schemes
Copyright Agency's Commercial Reproduction Licence Schemes currently include licence schemes which grant reproduction rights only. Understandably, the number of licensees for these schemes decreases each year, as most licensee organisations seek authorisation for email and communication use. These licences are offered to the corporate, document delivery, local government, press clipping, not-for-profit associations and funeral director licence sectors.
