CAL is offering a new local government copying licence to provide for the growing use of digital material in councils.
CopyrightAccess provides councils with the ability to copy and share copyright material within certain limits, for example by:
- Scanning items
- Saving to disc or a computer harddrive
- Displaying on a company intranet
- Emailing within an organisation
- Photocopy and faxing material

Easy access to informative material is essential in staying ahead in today's world.
But if you email articles to colleagues, photocopy a newspaper article or place a research paper on your intranet without the express permission of the copyright owner then you may be infringing copyright.
With CopyrightAccess you can continue to use informative materials for your day-to-day business knowing that you comply with copyright laws.
CopyrightAccess is an efficient and simple copyright management licence which provides you with the ability to use, within certain limits, a wealth of published materials.

A CAL CopyrightAccess Licence provides you with:
- a cost-effective way of managing your copyright responsibilities
- convenient access to copyright materials and support for your copyright management queries
- an increase in legal protection against copyright infringement.
What can I do under a CopyrightAccess licence?
With CopyrightAccess you can share knowledge throughout your council. It provides you with a number of rights that will allow you to use parts of published materials, including:
- emailing, displaying on your intranet and, in some circumstances, faxing
- making photocopies
- storing on internal networks and drives
- scanning where a work is not available digitally
How much can I copy?
Subject to certain limitations, the licence allows you to copy up to:
- 10% of the number of pages or one chapter of a book
- one chapter or 10% of the number of words of a digital work
- one journal article from any issue – more than one if the articles relate to the same subject matter
What about my existing subscriptions?
The licence is designed to complement any subscription services you may already have. It provides you with the ability to fill in the gaps in copyright compliance around your use of materials provided under subscriptions and other materials you may use.
It does not allow you to create a collection that replaces your council's need to purchase or subscribe to copyright material.
