CAL's cultural, professional development and publisher's career development funds

Project, initiative and program support

Since 1995, Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) has allocated over $4 million to its Cultural Fund (the Fund) to support research, education and cultural development projects that enhance the economic and creative climate for Australian creators.

CAL 's Cultural Fund

CAL 's Board is authorised by CAL 's Constitution to allocate 1% of copyright licence fees collected to cultural development.

This is known as the Cultural Fund. The Cultural Fund supports a wide variety of projects that enhance the economic and creative climate in which CAL 's members operate. It is also designed to provide practical assistance to creators to the benefit of the Australian cultural community generally.

The priority area for funding for the Cultural Fund in 2008 is ‘The Development and Dissemination of Australian Content'.

Applications for 2008 should be received in CAL's office by 5.00pm on the following dates:

  • Friday 25 July
  • Friday 24 October
  • Friday 21 November

Professional and Career Development support

As part of the Cultural Fund, CAL also allocates $100,000 a year to be evenly divided between two funds – the Professional Development Fund and Publishers' Career Development Fund. These Funds offer support to individual Australian creators and publishers wanting to improve their skills and expertise.

The Professional Development Fund

The Professional Development Fund offers individual creators a maximum of $5,000 to support their professional development through attendance at a Conference, Writers' Festival, Summer School or Course, within Australia or overseas.

The deadline for the second round of Professional Development Fund applications is 5.00pm on Friday, 17 October 2008, for projects commencing after 1 January 2009.
