Copyright Agency has been appointed by the Australian government to administer Part VB of the Copyright Act 1968 for all educational institutions. This section of the Act is what allows teachers to copy third party material to distribute to students for educational purposes.
What does the licence allow?
The statutory licence allows:
- reproduction of hardcopy or printed text and images, e.g. by photocopying or scanning; and
- reproduction and communication of digital text and images, e.g. saving to disk, duplicating, printing, making available online, emailing.

In some cases, you can use only a reasonable portion of a work that is commercially available. We can license uses not covered by the statutory licence under our Pay per use licences.
