CAL is working with various partners to provide avenues for Australian content to go online. We provide digital rights management for our members on the following projects.

APA-FT
Based on the Australian Public Affairs Information Service compiled by the National Library of Australia, this full-text database provides subscription access to articles in the humanities and social sciences. Full text is available for material from 1995 onwards. A pay-per-view service was launched in February 2004.

AGIS Plus Text
Based on the Attorney-General’s Information Service, this valuable online resource provides subscribers with online subscription access to material of relevance to Australian law. Full text is available for material from 1999 onwards. A pay-per-view service was launched in February 2004.

Meditext
Based on the Australasian Medical Index from the National Library of Australia, this medical resource features a range of Australian material additional to and included in Medline and is available via subscription. Full text is available for material from 1995 onwards. A pay-per-view service was launched in February 2004.

ACER full-text retrieval service
From the Australian Education Index comes a pay-per-view service that allows access to articles indexed.

Why participate in these projects?

  • Through these projects, CAL helps members find new markets and additional revenue streams.
  • No additional work or data processing is involved once CAL members agree to participate. CAL and the project partners do all the work of preparing the original publications for electronic or digital communication. There is no capital outlay for members.
  • CAL provides creators and publishers with an opportunity for a limited test in emerging markets for online information. Many participating members have no other digital communication or publishing program.
  • New technologies make it easier to digitally copy and exchange material without payment to copyright owners. CAL is a trusted partner in working to secure downstream benefits for the use of published works that would otherwise show no revenue returns.
  • CAL negotiates with the major institutions on behalf of all participating members to achieve the best possible financial return. Acting for many individual publishers and authors adds considerably to CAL's negotiating position. Hundreds of journals and thousands of articles are included.
  • CAL monitors use and manages the collection and payment to all the individual participating members consistent with CAL's trusted distribution policies.
