David Malouf Shortlisted for 2011 Man Booker Prize
Australian author David Malouf was named amongst a list of finalists for the Man Booker International Prize at a press conference in Sydney on 30 March.
David is the only Australian author to be shortlisted for the prize this year, joining authors from China, Spain, the UK, Lebanon, Italy, India and the USA.
The prize is awarded biannually to a living author who has made a significant contribution to fiction on the world stage. The judges consider a writer’s body of work, rather than a single novel. The prize is open to authors who have published fiction in English, or whose work is generally available in translation in the English language.
This year, the winner of the prize will be announced at the Sydney Writers’ Festival on 18 May and will be celebrated at an awards ceremony in London on 28 June.
