Supplementary Submission to the ALRC

April 12, 2013 | Policy

The Copyright Agency has lodged a supplementary submission to the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC), which is conducting an inquiry into copyright and the digital economy.

Download the ALRC follow-up Submission. It is also published on the ALRC’s website here.

There is more information on the ALRC inquiry here, including links to the ALRC inquiry homepage, submissions, our response to the ALRC’s Issues Paper, and our blogposts.

Our supplementary submission covers:

  • how statutory licences operate in the digital environment
  • the value of educational use of content under the statutory licence
  • considerations for the new ‘flexible’ exception that has been proposed

In formulating the submission, we consulted with a range of stakeholders, including the Australian Society of Authors and the Australian Publishers Association.

The ALRC will release a Discussion Paper at the end of May 2013, and invite responses. Its final report is due at the end of November 2013.
