The Cultural Fund has provided money for theatrical group Poetry in Action to develop a performance based on Australian poetry.
The show, The Australians, developed by playwright Caleb Lewis has been performed all over NSW, from Sydney to Coonabrabran, Dubbo, Mudgee, Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, Gosford and Blacktown and will also be performed in Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT.
Some Copyright Agency staff caught a performance at Shore school in North Sydney recently. Staff reported that it was amazing to watch a theatre-full of high school boys all quiet as they listened to Australian poems and lyrics woven skilfully through this narrative work. It is performed by actors Vanessa Morrison, Dean Mason and Alex Bryant-Smith and directed by Matt Edgerton.
Some 20,000 students will see the show this year, which, in line with the anniversary of the outbreak of WWI, has a focus on Australian war poems.
