2011 Career Fund Projects

Some of the projects supported by the Career Industries Career Fund in 2011.

Aleesah Darlison $2,800 Aleesah will be an author guest speaker at the Hong Kong International Literary Festival 2011 to be held in March.
Anna Pogossova $2,967 Funding enabled Anna undertake a one-month artist residency at The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists in February 2011.
Anne Vize $787 With support from the Creative Industries Career Fund, Anne will be able to attend a two day workshop in Brisbane on technology to support disabilities and augmentative communication.
Caitlin Vaughan $3,000 Funding will allow Caitlin (from Information and Cultural Exchange) to attend a regional meeting of organisations working with tactical technology on their Info-Activist program in Bangalore, India.
Chloe Elrich $2,500 With support from the Creative Industries Career Fund, Chloe will be attending a Continuing Professional Development Program, run by Australia Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP).
George Catsi $1,941 CAL funding supported George’s attendance at the National Screenwriters Conference in February 2011.
Jane Camens $1,000 Support from the Creative Industries Career Fund will enable Jane to attend the 2011 Worlds Literature Festival in Norwich, UK, in June.
John Connell $660 John will use funding to participate in the Varuna Writers Fellowship and will complete his own work whilst learning from other writers.
Jon Reid $1,000 Funding will assist Jon in attending a masterclass in photographic storytelling in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Kim Kruger $2,000 Kim will participate in a workshop by Pascua Yaqui master jeweller, Na Na Ping, in conjunction with Indian Market Week and the Santa Fe Indian Market in Santa Fe, USA.
Ross Donlon $3,000 With funding from the Creative Industries Career Fund, Ross will be able to read his poetry at the Wenlock Poetry Festival in Much Wenlock, UK, and at the Free Word Centre in London. After this he will head to Norway for a three month residency in the Artists’ House, Messen, in Alvik, Norway.
Shirley Shackleton $3,000 Funding will enable Shirley to attend the Shanghai and Hong Kong International Literary festivals, and the Australian Writers Week at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.
Tim Graham $345 Tim will use the funding to attend two one-day courses to be conducted by the NSW Society of Editors.
Benjamin James $2,900 Benjamin will be attending a publishing course at Yale University (USA) in July 2011.
Bronwyn Lovell $2,015 Funding enabled Bronwyn to participate in the 2011 Women of the World Poetry Slam in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
Will Kuether $4,700 With the support of the Creative Industries Career Fund, Will is going to attend a professional summer workshop in screenwritingat University of California, Los Angeles, USA.
Rob Feldman and Linda Adair $967 Rob and Linda will be attending the Supanova Pop Culture Expoand Graphic 2011 in Sydney.
Nathan Stoneham $2,275 Nathan will use funding to pay for airfares between Brisbane and Edinburgh (UK), to attend the conference Knowing Ways: Critical Learning in Arts Practice.
Maurice O’Riordan $4,050 Support of the Creative Industries Career Fund will enable Maurice, editor of Art Monthly Australia, to attend the Venice Biennale and Istanbul Biennale.
Julia Shaw $500 Julia is co-director of Critical Animals, a symposium held annually in Newcastle as part of the This is Not Art festival. Funding will enable her to attend the committee meetings for the festival.
Emma Lindsay $1,000 With the support of the Creative Industries Career Fund, Emma will be participate in the Hill End artists in residence program at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Murray’s Cottage
Emily Kiddell $2,960 Emily will be attending the Tin House Summer Writers Workshop in Portland, Oregon (USA).
Ella O’Keefe $1,000 Ella is co-director of Critical Animals, a symposium held annually in Newcastle as part of the This is Not Art festival. Funding will go towards her attendance at the Critical Animals symposium in Newcastle subsequent monthly meetings.
Corinne King $4,245 Funding will go towards Corinne’s attendance at the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) 2012 Winter Conference in New York.
Charis Hold $5,000 Charis will use funding from the Creative Industries Career Fund to attend the Atelier for Young Festival Managers in Izmir, Turkey and the Cheltenham Literature Festival in Cheltenham, UK.
Bronwyn Mehan $735 Bronwyn will be attending The Society of Editors (NSW) National Editors Conference, New Horizons for Editing and Publishing in Sydney in September 2011.
Christine Piper $4,065 Support from the Creative Industries Career Fund will enable Christine to attend the Iowa Writers’ Workshop Graduate Summer Program in fiction at the University of Iowa, USA.
Lesley Boland and Greg Gould $1,158 Lesley and Greg will undertake training in Adobe Illustrator at the Canberra Institute of Technology and participate in the National Young Writers’ Festival in Newcastle.
Giles Ryder $3,553 Giles will be undertaking a residency at the National Art Studio in Korea and a research tour to Thailand as part of an Asia Pacific Arts Fellowship. In both countries, Giles will be focussing on specialist light work.
