Creating unique spaces:
Five projects that blend art and architecture
Copyright Agency specialises in the licensing of artworks for a range of projects, including in architecture and interior design. We facilitate artist collaborations of varying sizes and budgets – here are five examples of how we have helped our clients incorporate artworks to elevate their designs.
1. Integrated Artworks
For the ceiling of the Monash University Chancellery Building, we integrated an artwork by Margaret Preston that is part of the university’s collection. Preston’s Tea-tree and Hakea Petiolaris (1936) now features prominently on the ceiling of the new building, and is a spectacular example of how artworks can be integrated into the architectural fabric of a building.

2. Interior Design
Create memorable interiors by engaging artists through Copyright Agency for your projects. For the ANZ offices in Sydney, we licensed Lakkari Pitt’s Dhagaan Rug which has become a striking feature of the space. As experts in First Nations licensing, Copyright Agency ensures ethical engagement with the artists and represents over 5,000 Indigenous artists across the country.

3. Laser-Cut Metal Screens
Artworks can be transformed into laser-cut metal screens in architectural features, such as in the above examples of Andrea Pindan’s Healing Connections – Coast to Country at the Royal Far West Headquarters in Manly. Licensing artworks in this manner can be an effective place-making practice that enhances the environment through art.

4. Exterior Features
For The Westin Hotel in Perth, we licensed Lena Nyadbi’s Jimbirla and Dayiwul Lirlmin for the building’s façade. The artwork was etched into stone and features prominently upon arrival at the hotel. By licensing artworks for your architectural projects through Copyright Agency, you can be confident you are meeting best practice, clear agreements are in place and the process is easy for you.

- Window Decals and Wraps
For smaller and temporal projects, we have also licensed artworks for use as decals and wraps. For example, we licensed Linda Loo’s work on the Bilya Café by the Swan River at the Crown Resort in Perth, which covers the entire façade of the building. Licensing artworks as decals and wraps can provide an efficient solution for pre-existing structures.
