RESTRICTED AND EXCLUDED ARTWORKS

Visual Arts Licences

Copyright Agency’s member artists, and artists’ beneficiaries, give us the right under their membership agreement to license the use of their works. In many cases, Copyright Agency can grant licences directly, without having to check with the artist first. In some cases, however, the artist has asked us for a right of “prior approval” for certain works or uses. This means that we have to check your proposed usage with the artist before we can grant a licence.

Some of our licences are “transactional”, that is, one-off licences for specific projects involving one work or a defined group of works. In other cases, we grant “blanket” licences that cover our entire visual arts repertoire. In the case of blanket licences, some works in our repertoire might be excluded from use under that licence or require prior approval from the artist before they can be used under the licence.

The following table and search tool allows licensing customers to check whether there are any restrictions or exclusions associated with a particular artist’s works.
