All applicants must provide a clear outline of their intended project.
Applications are assessed by a panel of independent peers from the writing and publishing industry.
Support Material
You must submit the following support material with your application as a PDF via the SmartyGrants online system:
- A one-page synopsis of the proposed work
- A sample of your writing from your proposed project (up to 10 pages)
- A one-page CV outlining your publication history
- Proof of a contract from an Australian-based book publisher OR a letter of interest/intent to publish from an Australian-based book publisher
- If your project refers to, or involves First Nations individuals, communities or subject matter, you must submit a letter of support from the relevant individuals and communities.
Who can’t apply
You are not eligible to apply if you have:
- NOT submitted a writing sample from your proposed Fellowship project
- self-published both books
- co-authored all/any of the two books
- written and published short films/film scripts
- written work primarily for the scholarly or academic market

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND GRANT OBLIGATIONS
- Once your application has been submitted, no changes can be made, regardless of whether it is submitted before the round closes.
- The successful applicant will agree to acknowledge the Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund in any publication arising from the Fellowship.
- Successful applicants must submit an acquittal report on their funded activities within eight weeks of the completion of the project via the SmartyGrants online system.
