Kim Williams appointed as Chair of the Copyright Agency

June 30, 2015

Copyright Agency Board Director, Kim Williams, has been appointed as the organisation’s Chairman.

Mr Williams takes on the role from Sandy Grant who has chaired the not-for-profit for the past five years – and been a Board member since 2002.

Mr Grant will remain on the Board. Mr Williams, who joined the Copyright Agency’s Board in January, is a former Chief Executive at each of NewsCorp Australia, FOXTEL, Fox Studios Australia, the Australian Film Commission, Southern Star Entertainment and Musica Viva Australia and was also a senior executive at the ABC.

CEO Murray St Leger said, “Kim is a vocal advocate for creators’ rights. His high-level expertise within the arts, media and creative sectors has already made an impact at the Copyright Agency. With the myriad challenges to creators’ rights in the current climate, Kim’s appointment as Chair is a very positive development for our members.”

Kim Williams said, “I want to sincerely thank Sandy Grant for his tireless work for our members for the past 13 years. I am grateful Sandy will continue to serve on the Board. He must be congratulated for driving and supporting many landmark initiatives in his time as Chair. These include the development of the world-first digital textbook platform for schools, LearningField, and Reading Australia, which helps teachers access Australian stories for their students.

Sandy also helped deliver the first-ever copyright payments to NSW surveyors just a few months ago after a decade-long court process. He has set a high, aspirational standard.”

The Copyright Agency’s nearly 30,000 members include authors, publishers, journalists, photographers, surveyors and visual artists.
