April 29, 2024

The Attorney-General’s Department has published the list of members of the Copyright and AI Reference Group (CAIRG) and of the CAIRG Steering Committee.

You can see the 61 members of the Reference Group and the 20 members of the Steering Committee here. Copyright Agency is a member of the Steering Committee, as are Australian Society of Authors and Australian Publishers Association. Copyright Agency will consult with other key stakeholder organisations, including those representing visual artists such as National Association for the Visual Arts and Image Makers.

The Department has also published the governance framework for CAIRG here.

The Department has said that the initial focus will be the use of copyright material as inputs for AI systems, and that CAIRG may also consider issues associated with AI outputs, such as potential infringement and copyright status.
