King’s Birthday Honours List 2025

Congratulations to our members who were recognised in this year’s King’s Honours List.
Companion of the Order of Australia (AC)
John Maxwell (JM) Coetzee, for eminent service to the arts, particularly literature, to literary studies, to tertiary education, and to animal welfare. Recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in literature, Coetzee is the author of 18 novels, including the Booker Prize–winning titles Life & Times of Michael K and Disgrace.
Phillip Adams AO, for eminent service to broadcast media, to journalism, to the arts, to cultural leadership, and to the community. Adams was made a member of the order in 1987, and an officer in 1992. He currently writes for The Australian and recently retired from his role hosting ABC Radio National’s Late Night Live after 33 years.
Writer and director of modern classic films including Strictly Ballroom and Romeo + Juliet, Baz Luhrmann, for eminent service to the arts as a filmmaker, to the theatre, to cultural heritage, and to the development of artistic talent.
Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)
Australian director and playwright, James David (Jim) Sharman, for distinguished service to the performing arts as a writer and director.
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
Emeritus Professor Robert Baines, for service to the creative arts, particularly as a jeweller, and to education.
Professor Gary David Crew, for service to literature as an author.
Mark William Ford, for service to music education, and to the arts.
Emeritus Professor Ivor Indyk, for service to Australian literature.
Garth Nix, for service to literature as an author.
Chris Shain, for service to the photography industry.
