July 16, 2025
Copyright Agency is delighted to announce the continuation of its highly successful visual arts initiative, Copyright Agency Partnerships (CAP) – an annual collaboration with Australian art galleries and institutions to commission and present new work.
Now entering its fifth year, CAP provides significant opportunities for mid-career and established Australian visual artists to develop and present new work in partnership with leading art galleries and cultural organisations around Australia.
From 2025 to 2028, the Copyright Agency will partner with the following galleries to create and present significant new opportunities for visual artists
- UNSW Galleries, Sydney (apply 2025/exhibit 2026)
- Edith Cowan University Art Gallery, ECU City, Perth (apply 2026/exhibit 2027)
- Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne (apply 2027/exhibit 2028)
Each partner receives a grant of $80,000 from Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund to commission new work.
In 2025, the Copyright Agency will partner with UNSW Galleries to create and present a significant opportunity for visual artists, with an exhibition planned from September to November 2026.
Applications from mid-career and established visual artists are now open and will close on 18 August 2025. Intending applicants are encouraged to become Copyright Agency members and to visit the website for eligibility details.
Josephine Johnston, Copyright Agency CEO, said: “We are thrilled to continue the CAP commission, with this year’s opportunity to be offered to a visual artist in partnership with UNSW Galleries. The first four years of CAP have supported significant solo exhibitions for mid-career artists, helping them connect with new audiences. Over the next three years, we look forward to working with these outstanding galleries to deliver bold new commissions and elevate the work of more Australian visual artists.”
José Da Silva, Director UNSW Galleries, said: “We are excited to collaborate with the Copyright Agency and showcase the vital role that university art museums play in commissioning and exhibiting new Australian art. At UNSW Galleries, we are dedicated to supporting Australian artists and designers, and we look forward to assisting the chosen practitioner with all our resources and efforts, helping them create a commission that enhances their profile and practice.”
Previous CAP partners are 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Institute of Modern Art, and Perth Institute for Contemporary Arts.
