An abundance of Copyright Agency members was recognised at the 70th Walkley Awards

The 70th Walkley Awards were announced on 27 November 2025.

Warm congratulations to all our Copyright Agency members who were recognised for their excellence in journalism:

  • Adele Ferguson and Chris Gillett took home the prestigious 2025 Gold Walkley for an investigation into the systemic failures in childcare, presented as a series of stories on 7.30Four Corners and ABC News online. Adele and Chris also received Walkleys in three categories: TV/Video: Current Affairs Short, TV/Video: Current Affairs Long, and All Media: Investigative Journalism.
  • Ben Butler was awarded Walkleys alongside Adele and Chris in two categories:  TV/Video: Current Affairs Long, and All Media: Investigative Journalism.
  • Peter Manning was recognised for Outstanding Contribution to Journalism.
  • Rick Morton took out the Walkley Book Award for Mean Streak (HarperCollins Publishers) about the robodebt scheme.
  • Christopher Hopkins was named the Nikon-Walkley Press Photographer of the Year for his portfolio of work published in Al JazeeraThe Age and The Guardian.
  • Andrew Probyn was awarded in the TV/Video: News Reporting category for ‘Russian Gangsters and the Medibank Hack’ on Nine News.
  • Neil Chenoweth was acknowledged in the All Media: Business Journalism category for ‘The downfall of MinRes and Chris Ellison’ in The Australian Financial Review.
  • Kate Abusson and Aisha Dow took home Walkleys for ‘Medical Misogyny Investigation’ for The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, in the All Media: Specialist and Beat Reporting category.
  • Robyn Riley was awarded for ‘Mum gives birth to the wrong baby’ for Herald Sun, in the All Media: Scoop of the Year category.
  • Matthew Absalom-Wong, Patrick O’Neil and Tom McKendrick received awards in the Digital Media: Innovation Journalism category for ‘Watched, followed, threatened. Now an imposter is claiming to be me’ for The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald.
  • Anne Connolly was recognised for ‘The Invisible Killer’ for ABC Background Briefing in the Audio Long category.
  • Jessica Halloran was awarded in the All Media: Sports Journalism category for ‘Predator in the Vault’ for The Australian.
  • Fiona Buffini was acknowledged in the All Media: Explanatory Journalism category for ‘Inside Australia’s $11b charity stockpile’ for The Australian Financial Review.
  • Primrose Riordan and Lisa Murray received Walkleys in the Feature Writing Long category for ‘The Power of One: Inside Lisa Forrest’s Fortescue’ for The Australian Financial Review.
  • Melissa Fyfe was awarded in the Feature Writing Short category for ‘Wedlocked’ for Good Weekend Magazine, The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald.
