Copyright Agency and Australian Tutoring Association partner to promote copyright awareness in the tutoring sector

December 2, 2025

Copyright Agency and the Australian Tutoring Association (ATA) have entered into a new partnership to promote copyright awareness and best practice standards across the tutoring industry.

The partnership builds on a shared commitment to supporting ethical practices and ensuring tutors understand their rights and responsibilities when using third party material. Through this collaboration ATA members will gain access to copyright licensing training, resources and professional development opportunities designed to strengthen compliance and confidence in content use.

Under the partnership, Copyright Agency will deliver webinars, provide expert speakers for ATA events and rollout a ‘Good Copyright Governance’ badge that recognises tutoring organisations that demonstrate copyright compliance.

“We’re so pleased to work with the Australian Tutoring Association to promote copyright awareness within this important and growing sector,” said Sharon Maguchu, Head of Government and Education Licensing at Copyright Agency. “Tutors and educational providers play a vital role in helping students learn effectively, and understanding copyright helps ensure that creators of educational materials they rely on are fairly respected and paid for the use of their work.”

Mohan Dhall, CEO of the ATA, said: “The Australian Tutoring Association is delighted to partner with Copyright Agency. We believe that ethical tutors value the creative works of copyright holders. They understand their obligations with respect to statutory licences and use of materials made by others. We look forward to working with Copyright Agency to educate our members and the tutoring community about copyright, their copyright obligations, their rights as creators and emerging issues arising from AI and other technological developments.”

Both organisations are committed to ongoing collaboration and awareness-building throughout 2026.
