2022 Annual General Meeting

The 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Copyright Agency Limited was conducted in-person and live-streamed on Monday 21 November 2022 at 4pm AEDT.

Kate Harrison – Chair of The Copyright Agency

This has been a year of significant changes.

Our new CEO, Josephine Johnston, started in February this year.

A number of important developments have provided opportunities to review and reset key stakeholder relationships. These include a change of government, and the shelving of proposed legislative changes that threatened revenue that supports our creative industries, particularly the educational publishing sector. They also include a new long-term agreement with the school sector, positive developments for members in the Tribunal proceedings with the university sector, and new licensing agreements with media monitoring associations.

Jo Johnston – CEO, The Copyright Agency.

Our purpose is to support creation of content by making it easy for people to copy and share text and images on fair terms.

We support creation of content by distributing copyright revenue that we collect for writers, artists and publishers.

In 2021–22 we distributed $95m to more than 22,000 recipients. These payments help writers, artists and publishers invest their time and money in new content.

We achieved this despite some significant challenges. They included reduced payments from the university sector and from media monitoring companies, and a cyber attack in November last year that delayed some of our payments.

I get inspired to create by ordinary people and the mad, interesting, exhilarating craziness of their everyday lives. There’s no such thing as boring once you look below the surface of people from any walk of life.
