Copyright Agency and UK’s CLA enter rights exchange agreement for AI rights

June 9, 2026

On 3 June, Copyright Agency signed an updated rights exchange agreement with its UK counterpart, Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA), to cover use of copyright works in prompts for AI tools used in the workplace. This will allow Copyright Agency’s extension of its Annual Business Licence to cover UK content authorised by rightsholders for this use, and vice-versa. It is the latest development in longstanding rights exchange agreements that allow copyright management organisations like Copyright Agency to include foreign content in their collective licences.

Copyright Agency is now consulting with members on collective licensing for other AI activities: reference content and AI model development.
