Extension of our Annual Business Licence to staff use of AI tools is covered by most members’ current licence participation.
However, our practice has been to consult with members on new activities to be covered by our licences, and enable them to opt out if they do not want their works to be used for those activities.
Members can opt in and out of non-statutory licence schemes at any time, by logging into their online account and changing their participation on the Licence Participation page.
The categories of licence participation in non-statutory licence schemes are:
- Pay-per-use
We provide bespoke licences for particular text works (such as journal article, newspaper article, poem or passage from a book) and artistic works (such as a painting or photograph). These licences are for specific uses such as inclusion in a book, merchandise or fashion. - International
We have reciprocal arrangements in place with copyright management organisations in other countries, so we can collect royalty payments for you if your work is used overseas. - Full text subscriber databases
We license the inclusion of your journal articles in full text databases such as Ebsco and Proquest. - Images in TV programs
We can collect image royalty payments for you from Screenrights. You can also choose to join Screenrights and receive the royalties directly instead, which means that Copyright Agency’s operating costs are not deducted. - Blanket
We provide blanket licences to businesses for use of copyright material in the workplace, to media monitoring organisations, and to governments to communicate survey plans and other content. - Use of Generative AI tools in the workplace
As part of our blanket licences to businesses for use of copyright material in the workplace, we enable staff to use copyright material in prompts to generate outputs from AI tools, such as summaries, and to copy and share outputs with colleagues.
If you do not want your works to be covered by the extension of our Annual Business Licence to staff use of Generative AI tools in the workplace, you can deselect (untick) this area of licence participation.
Please feel free to contact the Member Services team if you have any questions or need help.
