AGD summary of final copyright roundtable published

December 21, 2023

On 4 December 2023, the Attorney General convened the fourth and final copyright roundtable of a series commenced in February 2023.

You can see our earlier posts on the roundtables here and here.

The roundtables considered five issues: orphan works, quotation, remote learning, definition of ‘broadcast’, and artificial intelligence (AI). Copyright Agency participated in each of the roundtables.

The Attorney-General’s Department has published a high-level summary of the fourth roundtable, and outcomes papers on each of the issues, here.

A key outcome was the Attorney General’s announcement of a Copyright and AI reference group (here).  Copyright Agency was a signatory to a joint announcement by creator organisations welcoming the reference group, and setting out key considerations for the Government’s next steps on AI: see here.
